Love Letters and Cabbage Leaves: Flare

 

 
 


Flare stations are the focal point for the methane collection networks. Extraction wells are placed on approximately every acre of fill and sit on top of a perforated pipe that reaches down to the bottom of the garbage.

It's near the extraction wells that you'll occasionally get a snootful of methane stench, but elsewhere the dump doesn't smell any worse than the average urbanized environment.

Tubing takes the methane from wells to the flare stations and from there to the LFG Recovery Plant.
