Sunnyvale: Birdwatching

The Audubon Society organizes birding tours of the dump once a month. Twenty people stand around a spotting scope for twenty minutes and exclaim over the burrowing owls and bicker over the correct appelation of the grebe that putters about in a drainage ditch. Then they pick up their gear and do the same thing over again 50 yards up the path.

My impatience notwithstanding, the burrowing owls, who are porch sitters apparently and like to sit in front of the abandoned squirrel holes they have appropriated, are definitely most charming and thoroughly worth it.
